Pre-requisites: Student must be a sworn Law Enforcement Officer
Completed carbine/patrol rifle operator certification
This 24 hour Designated Marksman Certification course is designed to provide law enforcement patrol officers the necessary skill and knowledge to utilize the enhanced law enforcement carbine/rifle at extended ranges in fast paced emergency situations. This course will provide the student with an understanding of the functions and limitations of the designated marksman weapon.
Upon the completion of the course, the student will know how and when to deploy the weapon effectively and safely. The student will learn necessary marksmanship skills, range estimation, long range shooting techniques, extended range wound ballistics, weather considerations, tactics and techniques fordeploying the weapon at extended ranges, low light/night techniques, and use of optical sights.
Designated marksman rifles should have a free floated barrel and a trigger pull weight of no less than 3.5 lbs. It should employ a variable power scope with an etched and illuminated reticle. The scope should have a magnification no higher than 6x and must be capable of true 1x on the lowest setting.
Fixed power scopes of 3x to 4x are acceptable.
The training staff is comprised of individuals who have a wealth of experience as instructor trainers and utilizing these weapons in real world situations; from police patrol duty and police special weapons teams, to military Special Operations conducted in the War on Terrorism.
Students should expect a fast paced and physically active learning environment that will include running, kneeling and quickly assuming various unique shooting positions.
Student Must Provide:
Designated Marksman Rifle w/ tactical
Duty belt / holster / handgun
800 rounds rifle ammunition
50 rounds handgun ammo
Tactical vest (optional)
Shooting mat (optional)
Binoculars or spotting scope
Hat, ear protection, eye protection
3 (or more) magazines
Weapons mounted light
