Advanced Handgun Instructor Course
Pre-requisites:
Student must be a sworn Law Enforcement Officer
Completed basic handgun/firearms instructor certification
Course Description:
This 16 hour Colorado POST approved course is designed to build upon the existing firearms instructor’s skills. This is not a basic instructor certification course. This course will focus heavily on “coaching the shooter” and will greatly enhance the instructor’s ability to diagnose shooting errors in an easily understood manner. Then provide practical and effective means to make permanent and sustainable corrections. The student will further develop their understanding of the capabilities of the police handgun, and their ability to teach: handgun shooting techniques, use of various positions and cover, efficient weapons manipulation, malfunction clearances, understanding wound ballistics, tactics and techniques for fighting with the handgun, extended range shooting, stress mitigation, judgement / target identification, and the use of reflex sights.
The student will be exposed to numerous shooting drills to reinforce the learning objectives.
The training staff is comprised of individuals who have awealth of experience as instructor trainers and utilizing these weapons in real world situations; from police patrol duty and police special weapons teams, to military Special Operations conducted in the War on Terrorism.
Students should expect a fast paced and physically active learning environment that will include running, kneeling and quickly assuming various unique shooting positions.
Student Must Provide:
Duty Handgun
Duty belt/holster
1000 rds handgun ammunition
5 dummy rounds
Hat, ear protection, eye protection
3 (or more) magazines
Notebook and pen
Lunch / Water
